Frequently Asked Questions

The map won't open, what do I do?

First, you need to download google earth. You can do that for free, just click on this link. Now either double click on the kmz or kml file that you have purchased, or open your new google earth program and select 'Open' from the menu at the top of the screen, then browse to where you saved the file you purchased.

I can't see all of the map or parts of the map disappear as I zoom in and out.

This problem has to do with graphics settings specific to your computer and graphics card. Go to the 'Tools' Menu, then select 'Options', and switch the 'Graphics Mode' to OpenGL, DirectX, or Safe Mode. For information about which mode is right for your computer, see this google help page. For information about Graphics Problems and crashing problems, see this page of the Google Help Guide.

The colors on the maps are very faint.

Google Earth recently went to version 5.0, this version displays the transparency of the map overlays differently. Revert back to version 4.3 or contact us for a modified file.

The map is running really slow, what do I do?

Have you turned off all layers in the 'Layers' Menu on the left side of the screen? This can make a big difference. If the box next 'Roads' and 'Places of Interest' is checked, simply select the box to uncheck it and turn that layer off.
If you have a bunch of places saved in your 'My Places' this can also slow Google Earth down. Simply right click on 'My Places' and save as a kmz file to your hard drive. You can always load this back to Google Earth at any time by selecting the kmz file from your hard drive. You can also right click on any other place and save it to your hard drive (Be very sure it is saved before you delete it from my places!)
If you don't need the 3D viewing of the terrain, then you can turn off the 'Terrain' layer to speed up Google Earth.
You can also go the the 'Tools' Menu at the top of the screen and select 'Options'. In the '3D View' tab there is a setting for 'Terrain Quality'. Move the bar to the 'Lower (faster)' side.
I bought a new PC in 2007 and I run all these maps with the terrain on the highest setting, and with other layers such as roads and borders turned on and the zooming still goes smoothly.

Are there other hunts available besides the ones shown on the map?

In some cases, yes. For instance, there could be a specific hunt that covers multiple units. Always check the state's hunting website & regulations before hunting or applying for tags.

Why is trophy potential so low / so high in this area? I have never heard of anybody taking a trophy animal.

You have to keep in mind that people's ideas of a trophy animal can vary greatly from person to person. We have rated the maps from the standpoint of the average hunter (knows what a record book animal is, but considers a mature animal a trophy). Therefore, a fully mature animal is considered a trophy.
